Frederick Vyner was “taken prisoner by Greek brigands within the neighbourhood of Athens April eleventh 1870 and murdered by them April twenty first.”[5] A giant ransom had been demanded, and partly collected, sooner than his murder. Frederick’s mother, Girl Mary Vyner determined that the unused funds can be utilized to assemble a memorial church on her Yorkshire property, his sister, Girl Ripon, embarking on an an an identical problem, setting up St Mary’s Church on her property at Studley Royal. Burges obtained the commissions for every church buildings in 1870, possibly on account of of the connection between his largest patron, John Crichton-Stuart, third Marquess of Bute, and Vyner, who had been associates at Oxford.
The event of the Church of Christ the Consoler began in 1871 and the church was full by 1876.[1]

The Church of Christ the Consoler is a Victorian Gothic Revival church inbuilt the Early English mannequin by William Burges.[1] It’s located within the grounds of Newby Corridor at Skelton-on-Ure, in North Yorkshire, England. Burges was commissioned by George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon, to assemble it as a tribute to the Marquess’ brother-in-law, Frederick Vyner.[1] The church is a Grade I listed setting up as of 6 March 1967,[2] and was vested within the Church buildings Conservation Belief on 14 December 1991.[3][4]
